Early Autumn Mornings

Autumn is fully upon us and sadly none of the trees here changed color, but they are all losing their leaves quite quickly now. It rained overnight the past two days and sparse is now the word to describe what was once verdant and lush.

There are some yellow leaves, but most fall to the wind still green. It’s quite the change from living up north where there is always a riot of color (aside from the evergreen pine forest I grew up in). People come from all over to see the foliage change, and there are even websites that track the colors of the trees in each area.

I do like that it stays warmer longer here in on Long Island, but I also miss the fact that it would be crisp to the point of being cold every day and night up North, and we would have to have the heat on and bundle up to go apple picking. Here we can still wear tee-shirts most days and there is no chill in the air at the orchards or elsewhere to indicate winter is on it’s way.

I seem to remember the trees not being bare until Thanksgiving time, but the way things are going now I think everything will be bare before Halloween! No change of color and early bare branches… not the best combination for a festive fall season, but I guess that’s 2021 for you.
